MOVE TIP

How much notice is required to schedule a move?
That all depends on when you ask this question! Washington Metropolitan customers generally want to move in the summer or during the first five days or last five days of a month. If this sounds like you than you may want to secure your move date with a deposit as soon as you can. On the other hand, the less desirable winter months and cancellations might afford you the opportunity to schedule one day before your move date. One thing you can be sure of is that by utilizing our centralized sales and dispatch system Beltway has never stood a customer up in our 40 years of business. Have the following in place before move day and you’ll save the crew time, which will save you money.

Parking in front of your home should be secured with your own car(s) or well marked as reserved for move day. If you live in a building with an elevator--be sure that the dock and service elevator have been reserved.

Don't stack cartons in the halls, passageways or near the front door. If hallways are blocked, the movers will need to move the boxes twice. They must first be moved out of the way and then moved again for top bunk loading in the van.

Proper labeling of cartons with room and contents is a must. Label the side rather than the top so you can see the label when boxes are stacked. As you pack cartons, stack them away from your home's normal traffic patterns.

The tops of furniture should be cleared and the only items left visible should be those you want the movers to pack for you. Beltway Movers contacts its customers 24 hours in advance of move day to confirm moving arrangements and if you find you need some last minute help--we will be happy to arrange it.

Attics, under-stair storage areas and other "out of the way" places should either be well marked or their contents moved to a more convenient location.

Make up a few boxes of essentials you will need immediately upon arrival at your new home. Suggested items include toiletries, towels, medical supplies and maybe bed linens. From the kitchen--paper plates, paper cups, plastic utensils, snack food and basic canned goods. For the nursery--diapers, formula, special toys and a couple of clothing changes. Don't forget the family pet and in winter months--flashlights and/or some form of temporary lighting is a good idea.

Place items you do not want the movers to handle in a designated area. This may include brief cases, medicine, keys to the new home and those boxes of essentials mentioned earlier. Set aside some empty cartons to be used for last minute cleaning supplies and a cooler or two for refrigerator items. Don't forget the coats in cold or rainy weather.
